Emailing "MagicJack Fastest Growing Phone Company?"
That's what [the AP is saying](http://www.salon.com/wires/ap/scitech/2008/06/16/D91BE3RO0_tec_magicjack/index.html).
MagicJack is a USB device that connects a normal phone to your PC.
[According to GigaOM,](http://gigaom.com/2007/03/20/the-magic-behind-magicjack/) the company uses a national CLEC to route all calls over the internet to a local number. The costs are the price of a local call for every call you make.
The CLEC is [YMAX ](http://www.ymaxcorp.com/).
I've been using two of these at home: one for my own use and one for the home office. The service is very cheap: $50 for the first year, which is $30 for the device and $20 for the service plus $7 shipping and handling.
There are quirks.
