In the case of the former, the data comes in the form of photo. For the latter, it uses your personal information (i.e. name, birthday & height) that does the trick. What My DNA ($1.99, available here) does is use your info to create colorful pseudo-genetic barcodes that you can customize. You can use your 'DNA profile' as a profile picture (for twitter or Facebook, for instance), eSignature, icon, art display, or wallpaper. No one else will have the same picture, according to the developer.
